There are several art events going on tonight in Seattle including the opening of Void Blank Blank, a site specific installation at the Hedreen Gallery by New York artist Adam Putnam. The installation is part of an ongoing series making use of the magic lantern, a precursor to the slide projector that creates light-based optical illusions. Says Putnam:
When asked to do a new work for the Hedreen Gallery, I have to say I was seduced by the red hallway, which cannot be described as anything other than an orifice. This in fact was what sparked my curiosity. I instantly wanted to mirror the space somehow—to create a doppelganger. In this piece a dark receding space is constructed through the use of parallel mirrors that project an infinite regress onto the wall.
The opening at the Hedreen Gallery is from 5 to 8; the opening at Grey is from 6 to 10. While you’re at Grey, be sure to check out my exhibition Eternal Return, which just received a wonderful writeup from Jen Graves on the Slog.
