Emily Ann Pothast is a visual artist, musician and writer based in Seattle. Pothast’s work is rooted in an interest in myth, ritual, and the human desire to unite experience with the ineffable source of the experience itself. Her collage pieces combine finely deconstructed patterns from both self-generated and found sources into mosaic-like images that show the influence of sacred geometry, folk art, and medieval manuscript paintings. The process of breaking down and reassembling holds psychological and mystical significance for Pothast, as does the meditative process of creating emergent patterns from disparate colors and textures.
Pothast is the author of the art blog Translinguistic Other, half of the electronic folk duo Midday Veil, and the Director of the Antique Print Department at Davidson Galleries. Eternal Return is her first solo exhibition.
Grey Gallery and Lounge is located at 1512 11th Ave in Capitol Hill.
